Computer is slow

What kind of slow is it?

There are many reasons a computer might me slow, and different types of slowness:

• Is everything running slowly? Opening programs, clicking between windows, delay between typing and letters showing on screen, etc.
• Is the internet running slowly? Websites load slowly, slowness is happening specifically within your web browser.

Slow everything

• Start by checking what's running on your computer. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, or right-click on the task bar and selecting Task Manager
• Click on More details at the bottom.
• Look at the Memory column. This is usually a good indicator of how things should be running.
  • If the Memory is higher than about 85%, you're probably noticing some performance issues. You can click on the Memory column to find the programs using the most memory and then close them.
• If this does not help, reboot your computer and check whether things are running more quickly.

Slow Internet

• The wifi icon in the System Tray (lower right corner of the screen) should give an indication of the signal strength. Less arcs means lower signal and could be the cause of the problem.
• If you are at home, how far are you from your router? If possible move closer and see if your speed improves.
• Try closing all Chrome windows that you have open and reopening.
• If this does not help, reboot and see if the speed has improved.
