Stop unwanted notifications

Home > Chrome > Stop unwanted notifications

Do you have notifications popping up in the lower right corner of your screen? They could be news articles, ads, or even things that seem inappropriate.

Usually these are caused by either a bad Chrome extension, or a website notification subscription. Let's check for both!

Chrome Extensions

  • Click on the Chrome menu button (it looks like 3 vertical dots and should be just below the X that closes Chrome)
  • Move the mouse down to More tools and over to Extensions
  • A new tab will open showing you installed extensions
  • You can click Remove or turn off the toggle switch for any extensions you don't recognize or don't want.

Site Notifications

  • Click the Chrome menu button
  • Click on Settings
  • A new tab will open with settings for Chrome
  • In the Search Settings box at the top, type notifications
  • Look for the "1 result" flag below and click on Site Settings
  • Look for and click on Notifications which should be highlighted.
  • Browse through the Allow list for any sites that you don't want notifications from. Click the 3 dots next to anything you don't want and then choose Block or Remove
    • Click on Block to move the item to the block list
    • Click on Remove to remove the item from the allow list and you will be asked if you want notifications again next time you visit the site.
