TV or projector screen is not connected
Home > Docking Station > TV or projector screen is not connected
Is your computer properly connecting to the docking station?
- If your computer is connected properly, you should see that the battery icon in the lower right corner indicates the laptop is charging. If you don't see this, follow the steps below.
Are all the wires plugged in?
There are several wires that need to be plugged in for everything to work properly. For the TV and projector we need to check 3 specific wires:
- The TV connects with HDMI
- The projector connects with VGA
- The docking station has a power cable that must be plugged in
Be sure to push each wire fully into the docking station. Looking is not enough since wires may look plugged in even if they are not all the way in.
We have 2 brands of docking stations. The brand is printed on the dock. Check below for specific information about the cables for each dock:
TrippLite
- The power cable will plug into the port labeled "PD Charge"
- The cable that connects to your laptop plugs into the port on the bottom of the dock labeled "To Host"
Dell
- The power cable has a round plug and the port has a plug icon
- The HDMI cable plugs directly into the dock, while the VGA cable plugs into an adapter that plugs into the dock.
- The cable that connects to your laptop is hard wired to the end of the dock.
Reboot the docking station
- Unplug the docking station from your computer
- Turn off the power switch on the power strip and turn it back on again. If you can't find the switch, unplug the power strip from the wall and plug it back in.
- Plug the docking station back into your computer.
Check if the TV is set to the right input
- Most of the time, the TV should be set to HDMI1. If the wires are plugged in and there is no signal on HDMI1, you can look at what port the cable is plugged into on the back of the TV.
Check that your computer is set to display to the TV or projector
- Right-click on your desktop and choose Display Settings.
- Verify that the settings look correct. You should see that there are 3 displays and none of them should be greyed out.
- If you're not sure how to set up multiple displays, read Set up multiple displays
If all else fails...
- Try rebooting your laptop
- After a reboot,
